Spring Camp Filled With Great Prospects - Organization Thrilled With Event

April 19, 2010

The Yellowhead Arena was filled with many fine hockey players on the weekend, as The Neepawa Natives held their spring prospects camp. The camp is the first step in identifying talent for the 2010-2011 season and beyond.

The Neepawa Natives are coming off a highly successful spring prospects camp, in which the club was able to identify many elite prospects.

The camp - help between April 16th and April 18th in Neepawa -was filled with prospects between the ages of 14 and 18 years of age.

Excellent attendees came from as far away as Minnesota and Alberta.

Equally exciting to the coaching and scouting staff was the strong contingent of local Manitoba players - several of which were from the immediate and outlying areas of Neepawa.

Coach Bryant Perrier was thrilled with the weekend.

"We were very happy as a staff," commented the coach. "The skill level on the ice was high, we had many strong players, and the athleticism was exceptional for a spring camp."

The camp served two purposes for the coach and his staff.

"We were able to identify many young players," he said. "As well, we were fortunate to have many of our veteran players return and they practiced as a group, and also skated with many of our younger prospects."

While several of the players in the camp will not be eligible to play in the MJHL for at least a full season due to age restrictions, a good number of the players at the camp are eligible and likely to make next year's club.

"I would say there were at least ten players at this camp who could comfortably step into the MJHL next season," he commented.

While many of the club's older prospects and veteran players were not in attendance due to other commitments, Perrier says the club's scouting staff  is fully aware of their abilities.

"Our talent pool is deep and talented. It is an exciting time for our fans and for our organization."

"We have worked to really assemble a good list of players who want to play here. Fall camp is going to be great."
