June 1, 2010

Nate Thompson (2), a smooth skating and physical defenceman from Moorhead, Minnesota has committed to The Neepawa Natives for the upcoming season. The huge defenceman is a decorated verteran of Minnesota High School Hockey - including All Star selections for Section 8 and a place among the state's elite seniors in the Great Eight Tourney in March. Thompson was in Neepawa for spring camp and impressed all with his abilities.

The Neepawa Natives are pleased to announce that Nate Thompson, a six foot four defenceman from Moorhead, Minnesota has committed for the 2010-2011 season.

Thompson, has had an outstanding senior season with Moorhead High - earning selection to Section 8AA All Star team as well as participating in the Minnesota Great Eight Senior Showcase as an Section 8 All Star.

A tremendous skater and physical player, Thompson attended The Natives' spring camp in April, after being seen at the Section 8 All Star game.

Natives' coach Bryant Perrier is thrilled with Thompson's attributes and is excited about his future in The MJHL.

"Nate is a very good player who is just going to keep getting better and better as he pursues a career in the game."

According to the coach, it is the rare combination of skill and size that makes Thompson a prime candidate to be an impact player.

"Nate moves well, moves the puck, has very good habits and has great size as a bit over 6 foot 4. We are fortunate to enter into this phase of  Nate's career."

Another area Perrier is pleased with is Thompson's socialization as a player in Moorhead.

"Nate comes from a hockey family. His dad Derek is a great hockey guy who is very well respected and a former collegiate player," Perrier said. "As well, he comes from a program that played in a Class AA State Final two years ago. His resume includes games in front of 20,000 fans with millions watching on TV. He has some savvy."

But, it is Nate's desire to get better that impresses the coach.

"After a year where Nate had all these all star honors and selections, he just wants to get better," said the coach. "He is humble and grounded. We are excited about him in our community and dressing room."

"He is a great addition and a level of player we are thrilled to bring in to Neepawa."
