MJHL Adopts Several New Rules And Regulations Over Next Two Seasons

June 9, 2010

The MJHL’s Board of Governors recently met and approved a number of items for the 2010-11 season.

Two Referee System

The Board of Governors approved the implementation of the 2 Referee and 2 Linesman (Four Man) officiating system for the 2010-2011 season. 100 out of 330 League games will be assigned using the Four Man officiating system.

Rule Changes

A line change will not be permitted by a team if they shoot the puck over the glass from their defensive zone.

The second rule change involves adopting the NHL rule whereby, if a penalty is called the initial power play would be located in the defensive zone of the penalized team.

Change to MJHL Bantam Draft

The MJHL Draft was changed significantly. The Draft will be Eight (8) rounds in length. Each team will be allowed to protect Two (2)

players from within their protected zone. After the protected zone players are identified the Draft will be open to all teams to select players from any zone within the province for a total of Six (6) additional rounds.

Lineup Change

Beginning with the 2011 - 2012 season each MJHL club will be required to dress for each game a minimum of Five (5) players who are 18 years of age or under.

All-Star Game

The League All Star event has changed and will consist of the top 40 players playing one All Star Game. The event will be held on Wednesday,

January 19, 2011 under a competitive divisional format. The location will be announced during the summer and will be held in either Steinbach, Neepawa or Swan River.
