Natives Off Ice Training Program In Full Effect

Natives Off Ice Training Program In Full Effect

July 9, 2010

On March 22, The Neepawa Natives started the 2010-2011 hockey season.

Despite the first puck drop being almost six month away, the club marks that date as the beginning of next year.

Coach Bryant Perrier says his team's commitment to off ice training has been exceptional throughout the off season.

"We have a great program available to all of our veteran players and our recruits and signees," he said. "At spring camp guys were in great physical condition for that time of year."

Last season, Perrier was inhibited as a coach by a "less that stellar fitness level," at camp.

"We came in late and there just wasn't attention to detail," he said. "This off season, our guys are really buying in to the training and off ice conditioning."

The coach says the club's conditioning program is another step in the evolution of the program and league.

"We are trying to be special here. We want guys who want careers and futures in the game. Conditioning is one of the number one things we are looking for."

An increased level of play in The MJHL is the main reason for the club's demands.

"This was a very good league two years ago," he said. "Today it is a great league. Fitness is a staple for success and we have demanded it this off season."

While the coach is adamant that fitness and conditioning will be a vital part of team selection, he is confident that his group is embracing the challenge.

"I know our guys are working hard and I am really happy that the guys have embraced a high level of commitment. We are excited for guys taking their careers seriously."
