Tom Frasz Heading To Concordia As Two Sport Athlete

July 24, 2010

Thomas Frasz will join Neepawa Natives teammate Caleb Suderman at Concordia College on the men's hockey team. Frasz will also play baseball for the highly successful men's baseball program. Frasz is a native of Regina, Saskatchewan and is coming off an excellent campaign for The Natives.

When Thomas Frasz starts his collegiate career in September, he will be able to combine two of his great loves - hockey and baseball.

Frasz received notification on July 22nd, that he has been accepted to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for the fall semester.

He will attend Concordia on a generous scholarship, and will play hockey and baseball for The Cobbers.

Chris Howe, Head Coach of Concordia Hockey was ecstatic about Frasz's acceptance.

"I am so excited to have Tom joining our program.  He will bring an element to our program that we have been missing in his tough rugged style of play."

"I am thankful to the Natives organization, for the work they do on behalf of the young men they are coaching.
"

Howe was also excited for Frasz's ability to impact The Cobbers baseball program, where he will play for legendary coach Bucky Burgau - who is in his 32nd year at the helm for The Cobbers.

The three year junior hockey veteran is also a national level baseball player.

Frasz will participate in a hybrid sports schedule, with both programs working together to maximize Frasz's abilities on both surfaces.

"Tom will join The Cobbers hockey program immediately for captain's practices in the fall," said Natives Coach Bryant Perrier. "He will also be able to do fall training with the baseball program and both programs will work together."

Coach Perrier says Frasz's ability to land the scholarship was a true test for the punishing defenceman.

"This scholarship is a great success story for Thomas Frasz and his family," Perrier said. "He took courses this past year, and juggled training, work in the summer and a rigorous university schedule to make himself eligible. Tom showed characteristics of perseverance, patience and work ethic that were beyond what could be expected."

When faced with the task of becoming academically eligible to attend the prestigious Concordia College, Frasz went to work.

"He asked for a chance to prove himself as a student and he did everything he needed to do," Perrier continued. "He approached the summer and spring with academics on his mind and he did the work required to be accepted."

After achieving high marks in all his courses, Concordia said yes - something Perrier and his staff are thrilled with.

"Tom did the work and the gracious nature of the Concordia administration extended him a second chance. He showed what it takes to never give up."

He will join former Native Caleb Suderman on The Cobbers - a program that has seen a steady progression since being taken over by Howe - a former NCAA Division 1 assistant with St. Cloud State.

Other Natives Spencer Hoehn and Wes Pawluk are finishing up the decision making process and have multiple offers to study and play next season.

A decision on their plans will be known shortly.
