A goal and an assist from Natives forward Jordan Martin helped to lead Neepawa to its first win of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season on Wednesday, Oct. 6, a 4-2 triumph over the Dauphin Kings. Along with Martin’s two point effort, Nathan Hillis, Brad Marshall and Aiken Chop all added goals to help Neepawa to double up their opponent at Credit Union Place.
The entirety of the game was a tightly fought back and forth, which would see the Natives and Kings head into the third period tied at two. However, Neepawa pulled away in the final frame to pick up the two points in the standings.
Tyler Gutenberg picked up the win for Neepawa between the pipes, making 30 saves, while Brandon Holtby registered the loss for Dauphin, turning aside 28 of 32 shots. Special team results would see the Kings go 1-for-9 on the man advantage while Neepawa was held in check, going 0-for-6. The win improves Neepawa’s regular season record to 1-4-0 on the season.
